The scary games from Squid Game, such as ‘red light, green light’, will soon be playable in real life. Netflix brings the popular South Korean series to life with the reality game show Squid Game: The Challenge. With 456 entrants and a prize pool of $4.56 million, it will be the biggest show ever in reality TV history.
Just like in the original series by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the candidates will soon compete against each other in a knockout race, consisting of both known and new games. They will have to strategize and form alliances among themselves in order to eventually win a huge amount of money. There is one important difference: unlike in the series, dropouts remain unharmed. They are simply sent home empty-handed.
“Fans of the drama series can get ready for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-life contestants join in on the biggest game show ever, filled with suspense and twists, ” said Netflix’s Brandon Riegg.
Squid Game: The Challenge entrants can now apply. You can apply from anywhere in the world, the only requirements are that you speak English and are over 21 years old. “The stakes are high, but the worst is going home empty-handed,” the application said.
As it stands now, filming will take place in the United Kingdom in early 2023. Ultimately, ten episodes will appear online.
Squid Game is currently Netflix’s most-watched series of all time. In the first month after its release in September 2021, no less than 1.65 billion viewing hours were counted. At the beginning of this week, it was confirmed that a second season will be made.
