Nigerian and Thai woman arrested in Pattaya for romance scam, Nigerian man jumped from window to escape police

A Nigerian man and a 23-year-old Thai woman were arrested in the Pattaya area earlier this week after they were allegedly involved in an online romance scam in Thailand.

The duo, Robinson Ibuka Ade and Thidarat Biraban, were wanted by the Thai Criminal Court’s arrest warrant on charges of participating in fraud and importing falsified data into a computer system. When they were arrested, Thai police seized 148,000 Thai baht, 2,000 US dollars (cash).

The arrest came after a victim in Nakhon Sri Thammarat filed a complaint saying they had lost 905,000 baht to an Instagram account user, “davilalinda720”, who claimed he was a US soldier who had fought in Syria. The account holder would then trick the victim into transferring a large amount several times.

According to the initial investigation, at least 40 victims who made similar reports to Don Mueng’s police station claimed they had been scammed by the same Instagram account and lost a total of 112,000 baht. The police then applied for an arrest warrant to the Bangkok Criminal Court.

The investigation then revealed that the account holder lived in a flat in Pattaya. The Nigerian suspect was discovered in an apartment. He was eventually arrested while trying to escape and jumped/fell off the balcony of the third floor of the building. He was immediately caught by the police on the ground outside the apartment. The Thai Thidarat was also present in the apartment, she hastily hid 51,000 baht under her clothes and was about to disappear with the northern sun, unfortunately for her, the police also arrested her.

The couple has been taken into custody and taken to the Don Muang Police Station, meanwhile, the police are questioning other victims in order to get this scam done right.

And the Robinson Ibuka Ade had to undergo medical treatment for his fall, which police say he survived without serious injuries.
