Nongprue police raid pool villa in Pattaya, catch 16 alleged gamblers violating Covid19 measures
Police in Nongprue County yesterday raided a pool villa and caught 16 alleged gamblers playing card games for allegedly hundreds of thousands of baht in bets.
The raid took place around 5 p.m. yesterday and was led by Nongprue Police, including the Chief Inspector of Investigation and a team of detectives led by Lt. Col. Ekarin Sikhakul.
The raid followed a tip from neighbours in the area who reported to police that they were constantly seeing people walking in and out of the villa in question, causing neighbours to worry about the possible spread of Covid-19 in their area.
Upon arrival, Nongprue police discovered 13 women and three men illegally playing cards in the central part of the villa. An undisclosed amount of money was also found, which police have labelled as significant.
The 16 alleged gamblers found in the villa were not named but reportedly admitted to gambling for amounts of up to several hundred thousand Thai baht. Nongprue police also stated that the group reportedly failed to follow Covid19 precautions by not wearing masks or practising social distancing, along with other Covid-19 restriction violations.
All 16 people were arrested and sent to a local police station for further processing for violations of Thailand’s gambling laws as well as the rules of the Communicable Diseases Act and the Emergency Decree. The latest law, which is in effect due to Covid19 restrictions and rules, could potentially carry extremely hefty fines and/or possible jail time.
