One dead and one fisherman missing after severe storm capsized a squid fishing boat near Rayong
Yesterday’s early morning storm sank a local fishing boat off the coast of Rayong. A crew member of a boat was later found dead, one was rescued and another is still missing at sea.
The Rayong Port Security Control Center (PSCC) was notified by an emergency call from the fishing boat that had capsized, missing three crewmembers east of Samet Island.
The boat had left a pier three days ago to fish for squid at sea. The fishing boat ran into heavy weather, caused by the strong storm. The storm caused significant property damage throughout the province.
Other local fishing boats in the area responded to the emergency call and managed to save the 29-year-old boat owner, Wasin Jaroenpanit, who hung from the wreck of his boat. Two other crew members of the boat remained missing and the search intensified.
This morning, the body of Mr Sutha (no last name given), 21, was found while a third crew member is still missing. The search for the last missing crew member is still in full swing.
