The Pattaya Immigration Office, under an order from the National Chief Commissioner of the Immigration Service In Bangkok, Lieutenant General Sompong Chingduang, has watched the video clip at the soft opening of Taco Bell in Pattaya, where a dark-skinned man argued with a white man about wearing a face mask.
The public felt that the immigration service should intervene in this case, as wearing a face mask at this stage of the pandemic is very serious with the potential for a fine of 20,000 baht, the editors of Thailand’s Naew Na reported.
It was further felt that an example should be set, especially since the man, an American, allegedly threatened violence in the store, prompting the employees to call the police after the conflict began to escalate.
The IB with the Chonburi Provincial Police went to Taco Bell where the incident happened earlier this month and then to the apartment on Pratumnak Hill where the American man lives.
They arrested him at the apartment and admitted that he was the person in the video. Named as Cxarence, 33, from the US, he was taken to the Pattaya Police Station and charged with ominous activities that potentially spread a dangerous infection, essentially not wearing a face mask in public.
The Thai newspaper did not tell Naew Na how much fine he had to pay, but in general, a 6,000 baht fine for a first violation, while the fine goes up to 20,000 for a third violation, the newspaper announced.
The Naew Na further stated that the American accepted his sentence and realized that what he had done was wrong and that he intended to be the “eyes and ears” of society in the future in promoting the wearing of face masks
