The Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta warned the Thai population not to transport cannabis or hemp to Indonesia, because they could face the death penalty.

The Thai Ministry of Health removed cannabis from its list of banned narcotics on June 9, allowing it to be used for medical purposes and as a cash crop.

The embassy published this warning on Facebook to warn the people of THAILAND not to bring cannabis, hemp or products that use the two crops as ingredients to Indonesia.

According to the embassy post, violators can face a fine of at least 1 billion Indonesian rupiah (2.3 million baht), a prison sentence of five years to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

The embassy also warned people not to accept other people’s belongings when travelling to Indonesia.
