The popular video game for the PlayStation God of War will soon also be available as a live-action series, the American trade magazine Variety reports . The film adaptation is being developed by well-known names from The Wheel of Time, Iron Man and the creators of the 2018 game. It is not yet clear when the series will appear exactly.

The video game stars Kratos, who is also referred to as the God of War. After a bloody past in Greece, Kratos decides to exile himself to the Norse realm of Midgard. The series will likely continue the same storyline as the game’s. Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his son after his beloved wife dies in order to fulfill her last wish: to scatter her ashes on the highest mountain in the realm . “However, on their way to the highest mountain, Kratos and his son encounter some obstacles in the form of mythical gods and monsters that they must overcome.”

It is not yet known who will play the role of Kratos, but there is already plenty of speculation about the perfect candidate. For example, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is mentioned a few times, as is Jason Momoa. But also Dave Bautista from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and Travel Fimmel from Vikings are often mentioned. On Twitter, it is mainly suggested that Christopher Judge, who brings the God of War to life in the video game with his voice, should play the role.

In recent years, series based on video games have become increasingly popular. It is good to see that the series often do very well with the public and critics. Think Castlevania, The Witcher, and Cyberpunk, of which The Witcher in particular is a huge hit on Netflix to this day. In addition to Prime with God of War, HBO is also coming soon with a series based on the game: The Last of Us .

A week ago, God of War: Ragnarök was voted one of the best games of the year. Although Eldenring took home the title of best Game of the Year, God of War managed to take home the most awards, a whopping six. The game won the Game Awards for best story, best music, best audio design, best action-adventure game and innovation in accessibility. And also for best acting performance: that award went to actor Christopher Judge.
