Must read

A former police inspector in Nonthaburi was arrested earlier this week with 100,000 baht in cash, which he extorted from a suspect in a land fraud case.

The land fraud suspect had sent his lawyer to the Nonthaburi Police Station to hand over the money to retired Lieutenant General Pracha Bannathikorn.

The land fraud complaint against the suspect was filed by Achariya Ruangrathanapong, president of the Crime Victim Support Club, to the Royal Thai Police Anti-Corruption Division.

Pracha had offered to take on the case as a mediator and advisor, and his duties would be performed under the jurisdiction of the lead investigator. Therefore, it is likely that other agents investigating the case are also involved in the extortion.

The provincial police chief has ordered an investigation into the corruption case and wants an explanation as to why a retired police officer was involved in an active case.
