Rihanna is back with new music! After focusing on other things in her career for a long time, the singer has now released a single for the Black Panther soundtrack: Wakanda Forever , which hits theaters in two weeks. The track, called Lift Me Up , is a tribute to the late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman.
Lift Me Up was co-written by Nigerian singer Tems, who shared in an interview with HotNewHiphop that the track would be an ode to Boseman. “After talking to the director and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that would be a warm embrace to all the people I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would be like I feel like I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them ,” said Tems, who calls it an honor that Rihanna has conveyed her lyrics. “Rihanna has been a great inspiration to me.”
Boseman died of cancer in 2020 at the age of 43. His role in van T’Challa will not be recast and in the new film his character gets a proper goodbye.
The official premiere of the new Black Panther movie took place in Los Angeles yesterday. Rihanna was present with her partner A$AP Rocky in matching outfits. Also in attendance were the cast of the new film, including Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is in cinemas in the Netherlands from November 9. As with the first part, Ryan Coogler is the director and the most famous cast members will also be seen again. In addition, a number of new faces have been added to the story, such as Michaela Coel.
Rihanna’s latest album, Anti , was released in 2016 and since news broke that the superstar would be making contributions to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack , fans have been freaking out. The announcement of Rihanna as headliner of the Super Bowl halftime show also made fans enthusiastic about a possible comeback of the singer.
