A worker at a rubber plantation in Narathiwat, a province in the deep south of Thailand near the border with Malaysia, lost his leg after stepping on a bomb while working.
This area is known for frequent minor bombings and attacks as a result of the religious separatist uprising. A woman’s face was also injured in the explosion.
The two were working at the rubber plantation in Sungai Padi district around 8 a.m. yesterday morning when one of them stepped on a landmine underground. The man, who also worked as a volunteer for territorial defence, lost his leg.
Both were rushed to Sungai Padi Hospital for treatment. The police are still investigating.
