In Phuket, Thailand, a Russian tourist died after failing to control the scooter and flying off the road.
A Russian tourist was killed in Thailand on the resort island of Phuket. The second tourist, the deceased man’s younger brother, was seriously injured in a traffic accident involving the brothers, reports Phuket News.On April 8 at 04:30 a.m., Thalang police received a report of a traffic accident in the Pa Klok area, said Lt Col Yuthaphol Wattaset. It was reported that two foreign tourists on a scooter failed to manage and flew off the road resulting in the death of the man driving the scooter.
On arrival at the scene, police and rescue officers found a blue Honda Click scooter in the roadside grass. Nearby was the body of 36-year-old Russian citizen Maxim Fadeev. The man was wearing a simple helmet at the time of the accident, which did not protect the driver from the forehead injury visible in photographs provided by police.Andrei Fadeyev, 32, Maksim’s younger brother and a passenger on the scooter at the time of the accident, was at the scene. The man was also injured in the accident and was taken to hospital. The brother’s condition is not reported, but at least Andrey was conscious and able to communicate with police officers and rescue workers.
According to a preliminary investigation, the brothers arrived in Phuket on April 5 and planned to leave on April 15. The Fadeyevs were staying at a hotel in Patong and had rented a Honda Click scooter for convenient sightseeing.On the day of the accident, the tourists had gone to Bang Pe waterfall in Pa Klok. Police believe that the scooter driver, Maxim Fadeev, failed to orient himself on the unfamiliar road and did not manage to steer. The Russian Embassy in Thailand has been duly notified.
Thailand’s Road Safety Committee recorded one death and 80 hospital admissions following road accidents in Phuket on April 8 alone. Thirty-eight people have been killed and 6,422 injured in road accidents in Phuket since the beginning of the year.
