A man in Thailand’s capital has robbed 6 convenience stores in 90 minutes, with the robbery taking no more than 10 minutes for each crime

A 22-year-old unemployed man has been arrested in Bangkok after robbing six convenience stores in an hour and a half. The suspect spent no more than ten minutes in each shop and the total amount of loot was 3,500 baht, the Metropolitan Police said.

Officers from three Bangkok police stations worked together to track down the speedy serial robber. After a six-hour search, police apprehended the suspect, who turned out to be a 22-year-old native of the capital named Petch. During a search of the arrestee’s house, a motorbike, scissors and leftover cash were recovered and confiscated.

According to the police report, the man started a series of robberies at 4am at the first convenience store. Petch demanded money ranging from 500 to 1,000 baht from the employees, but the robber did not seem to impress the shopkeepers and was forced to retreat empty-handed.

Not discouraged after his first failed attempt, the man moved on to his next target, a second 7-Eleven shop, where Petch again failed, as he clearly lacked robbery experience. But the second failure didn’t stop the determined young man either, and the robber headed for a third shop.

All the loot of a hapless robber of six shops in Bangkok

After experience in the two previous robberies, at the third shop, Petsch armed himself and threatened an employee with scissors, literally snatching 300 baht from the hands of a terrified employee.

After figuring out how it worked, Petch took 1,000 baht in the fourth shop and another 1,000 baht in the fifth. The sixth “seven” was the pinnacle of the hapless robber’s career, where Petch managed to get 1,200 baht already.

The six robberies, carried out within an hour and a half, brought the total loot to 3,500 baht. Petch spent no more than 10 minutes in each shop and returned home at half past six in the morning.

The young man confessed to the crimes and said he committed the robbery because he lost his job two months ago. Petsch claimed he spent the stolen money on milk powder for his child.

It is not known what charges the police will bring against Petch, but the robber’s actions can be qualified under Section 334 of the Thai Penal Code, which states that whoever forcibly takes another person’s property is punishable by up to three years in prison and a fine of up to 6,000 baht.
