Thai construction worker dies during road works along Pattaya railway

Earlier this week, a construction worker died after being run over by a bulldozer in what Nongprue police described as a tragic accident in Pattaya.

Nongprue police were informed about the incident around 2 p.m. Wednesday, which occurred along the railway line between Soi Nern Plubwan and Soi Khao Noi where construction workers were working on the sewage system.

Police and some local reporters arrived at the scene and found the body of 58-year-old Mr Suwan Nayabu. He had been seriously injured by being run over by a backhoe, the poor man had to be pronounced dead on the spot.

The bulldozer operator, 37-year-old Nattaphon Sriwaurai, told Nongprue Police: “We have been colleagues for some time, who have been doing roadworks together in Pattaya for some time. Suwan was busy shovelling soil nearby.

My boss asked me to back up the bulldozer to make a trench for new sewer pipes. No one saw that Suwan was behind my vehicle, which led to his death. I am devastated because he was my friend and colleague.” so declared Nattaphon.

Nongprue police said Nattaphon is charged with reckless driving resulting in death. It was not immediately clear whether his supervisor or management would be charged in connection with the tragic accident.
