Thai man shoots his wife in Pattaya over deceptive lie with his shotgun

Wanpen Boonkerd confessed to police that he shot his wife with a shotgun for tricking him into signing a million baht mortgage contract.

The man was charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his wife after she mortgaged his farm and moved out.

57-year-old khu. Wanpen Boonkerd, was arrested in his terraced house on Takhiantia Soi on November 20, the police found a shotgun and five grenades in the house.

His wife, Wipa Prathomlek, suffered bullet wounds to the face and body. She was rushed to Banglamung Hospital.

Police said Wanpen confessed to shooting Wipa after an argument over a million baht mortgage she had taken out on his cassava farm by tricking him. Because he cannot read or write, Wanpen had, at the insistence of his wife, signed the contract with a fingerprint without explaining what the document was for.

Shortly afterwards she had left their house. Wanpen said he went to her house to say that if she didn’t come back to him, they would have to legally divorce. The two, both in oil and dead drunk, argued, during which Wanpen shot her with the shotgun.

In fairness, Wanpen told the police that he had no intention of killing his wife.
