Thailand lifts the obligation to wear face masks outdoors

Wearing a face mask outdoors is no longer mandatory as the Covid-19 situation in Thailand improves, according to an order signed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. Some other Covid19 restrictions have also been relaxed.

This announcement, published on the Royal Gazette website, said the following measures have been lifted or relaxed with immediate effect:

  • All 77 provinces are classified as green or surveillance zones, while the tourism pilot area (blue zone) will be dropped.
  • Wearing a mask outdoors is voluntary, except in crowded areas and areas with poor ventilation. People at high risk are also advised to wear a face mask.
  • Migrant workers can travel between provinces in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will announce new rules for film/TV series making in line with the relaxation of disease control measures.
  • Restaurants, pubs, bars, karaoke tents and similar places of entertainment are allowed to serve alcoholic beverages, taking all preventive measures.
  • Public gatherings are allowed, but gatherings of more than 2,000 people must be notified to the appropriate Infectious Diseases Commission, which will take steps to prevent the emergence of cluster cases.

The order also instructed the Department of Health to coordinate with related agencies to raise public awareness on how to stay safe from Covid-19 as the country transitions into a post-pandemic era and to develop a risk management plan for the future. case a new outbreak occurs.
