Thailand’s DSI targets 854 imported luxury cars

The country’s DSI to investigate cases involving 854 imported luxury cars, yesterday the department met with the attorney general’s office to discuss cases involving 114 suspects in 854 luxury cars worth 2.6 billion baht and reportedly “forgot” to pay customs duties.

The DSI discussed the guidelines, processes and related laws during the meeting and then ordered 10 research units to conduct probes, as decided in the meeting.

The director-general of the DSI, Triyarith Temahivong, will start looking for concrete transparent results as soon as possible.

Those who violate the customs law BE 2560 (2017) risk a prison sentence of up to 10 years or a fine of four times the price of the goods including excise duty, or a combination of both.

The government is expected to collect about 10 billion baht in overdue fines.
