Yesterday, ten more communities in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s main district were shut down to prevent the spread of Covid19, while the number of infections in Nakhon Si Thammarat Central Prison rose to 396.

The principal Nakhon Si Thammarat has put up notices to shut down the 10 communities, it would be Pa Long, Sai Charoen, Jampa Khom, Thung Cheen, Talad Hua-it (Soi Wassana), Don Fai (behind Wat Jaeng), Tha Chang (Soi Somboonsuk), Moom Pom, Na Phrathat and Pratu Khao.

The province previously decided to close 37 other communities to prevent the spread of the Covid19 virus.

The number of Covid19 infections in the Central Jail of Nakhon Si Thammarat Prison remains high.

Lieutenant Colonel Vorachai Arakrat, commander of the prison in question, said that zone 6 of the prison, the maximum-security zone, had 396 infected inmates out of a total of 1,600. This makes the number of infections high, he said.

To prevent the spread of the virus, prison authorities converted a training building in zone 6 into a quarantine and treatment facility for the infected inmates. Those in a high-risk group were separated from low-risk inmates. Covid19 tests are now being carried out on an assembly line.

It turned out that prison officials and inmates in other zones were found not to be infected, the prison commander said.

This central prison houses nearly 7,000 inmates.
