The new international driving licenses will be issued from May 1, according to the Thai government

The Department of Land Transport will issue the new international driver’s licenses from May 1st.

The new international driver’s licenses cover 84 countries covered by the Vienna Convention, including the US, UK, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Bahrain and Brazil and of course …… Belgium.

These driving licenses expire after three years.

Thai applicants for an international permit must enclose their current driver’s license, a copy of their passport, ID card and two passport-style photos. Applicants must also state the country or countries in which they intend to drive.

Foreign applicants must show their passport, work permit (paper or digital) or so-called smart visa to department officials.

Those who already hold a foreign driver’s license under the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic will be able to use it from 1 May in Thailand.
