The total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand has passed the 100,000 mark
The administrative centre for Covid19 control, CCSA, has announced that the number of cumulative COVID19 infections in Thailand passed the 100,000 mark yesterday with 2,302 new cases and 24 more deaths.
The total number of infections since the first case in early 2020 is now 101,447, including 94,089 locally transmitted cases, 3,895 cases among prisoners and 3,463 among arrivals from abroad. 65,803 have recovered and 35,055 are still being treated in hospitals. 589 people lost their lives.
According to CCSA assistant spokesperson Dr Apisamai Srirangsan, there are currently 1,228 serious cases under treatment, 408 of which are patients connected to special equipment.
Of the new infections today, Bangkok registered 1,218, followed by 243 in Pathum Thani, 117 in Samut Prakan, 103 in Nonthaburi, 66 in Prachuap Khiri Khan, 48 in Chonburi, 47 in Samut Sakhon, 37 in Songkhla and Ayutthaya and 27 in Surat Thani .
Dr. Apisamai said the women’s shelter, at Ban Pong Hospital in Ratchaburi province, was closed until May 24 after six medics and nine other patients became infected, allegedly by a woman who nursed her ailing mother in the ward.
There are already 30 people in this cluster of infections, including several family members of the medics, she said.
Of the 24 dead today, 13 are men and the rest are women, of which 8 are in Bangkok, 2 each in Chonburi, Pathum Thani and Kanchanaburi and one each in Chiang Mai, Si Sa Ket, Ratchaburi Samut Prakan, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Rayong, Nakhon Nayok and Ayutthaya. 16 of them had high blood pressure and the others had other underlying illnesses.
