In Krabi province, a German tourist, allegedly suffering from depression, jumped off a cliff in front of stunned park staff

The incident happened on a nature trail above the mountain crest of Khao Ngon Nak in Hat Nopharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, the Bangkok Post reported.

National park director Tikkhavuth Sriburin said he received a call from a German on Saturday afternoon informing him that his son, a hiker named Loo, was in the Khao Ngon Nak mountain area. The caller feared that Loo, who was suffering from a depressive disorder, would commit suicide and asked park officials to track him down.

Thap Khak Forest Rangers checked the logbook and found that Loo started hiking at 11:12 a.m. They asked the caller to send them a picture of Looe to use in the search.

At about 5:30 p.m., park rangers located Loo and asked him to come down to the office with them, and Loo agreed.

At about 6:30 p.m., after descending 2 kilometers from where the rangers found him, Loo received a phone call. After finishing the call, Loo turned to the rangers, apologized, and then abruptly rushed to the edge of the cliff and jumped down.

According to the park rangers, the action was so sudden that they didn’t have time to react and couldn’t stop him.

Back at the office, the rangers went to the Ao Nang police station to report the incident. They also contacted rescue units in the area to begin searching for Loo’s body, which was discovered the next day.

The 3.7-kilometer nature trail on Khao Ngon Nak Mountain, located about 500 meters above sea level, is popular among adventurous tourists in Thailand.
