U.S. offers $5 million reward for information on El Chapo’s sons

Drug lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán is currently serving a life sentence, but in the meantime, his four sons happily continue with all of Dad’s business. That is why the US is offering a reward of no less than five million dollars for the arrest of the sons of El Chapo.

It concerns the brothers Ovidio, Iván Archivaldo, Joaquín Jr. and Jesus Alfredo, all four of whom are known as ‘Los Chapitos’. “All four high-ranking members of the Sinaloa cartel are each subject to federal charges for involvement in the illicit drug trade,” the US State Department said after announcing the reward.

One of the sons, Ovidio, was arrested in October 2019. That arrest would later embarrass Mexico. For example, cartel members unleashed hell in Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa, after the arrest. The police, the army and civilians had to fear for their lives. They were attacked with heavy weapons of war.

In the end, at least fourteen people were killed, including four civilians. To prevent a further massacre, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was forced to release Ovidio. “History will tell us whether it was a right or wrong decision,” López Obrador said at the time.
