10 lucky ones with an angel on their shoulder escapes disaster in Chaiyaphum province in northeast Thailand
Ten people kept in isolation in a temple returned from their Covid19 elsewhere in Chaiyaphum to find that the building they housed their quarantine in had been hit by a landslide during their brief absence.
The incident took place at Wat Khao Tham Phra, on Phaya For the mountain in tambon Laem Thong in Phakdi Chumphon district.
An immense mudslide of stones and rocks had come down from the mountain and destroyed part of the single-storey temple building, which was used as an isolation centre for local people suspected of a Covid19 infection.
The landslide happened around 7:10 a.m. yesterday and followed days of abundant rainfall in this northeastern province.
The 10 temporary residents escaped possible injury or even death just because they had left for Phakdi Chumphon hospital early in the morning for Covid19 testing. They returned around noon and found that something was missing.
The temple’s abbot, Phra Boonsong Siritharo, said the landslide severely damaged the building’s toilet block, which was normally used to house monks.
